As will be discussed\, “futurevision” is the analyst’s image and imagining of the patient’s future self. Often patients come to treatment depressed\, stuck trying to resolve the past and failing to meet the needs of the present. The future is absent\, or a bleak projection of what was or is. With what Dr. Weisel-Barth calls “futurevision\,” the analyst and patient are able to co-create an image of the patient’s future\, specifically one that contains the patient’s growth into a more developed self. The program will involve three components: 1) a description of the relational formation of the analyst’s “futurevision” of the patient as well as its influence on treatment\, 2) case material to elucidate a real-world example of “futurevision” in psychoanalytic practice\, and 3) discussion with attendees. \nThis event is presented at the intermediate level  and is for clinicians of any orientation interested in or practicing relational psychoanalytic work. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n LEARNING OBJECTIVES\nUpon completion of the program participants should be able to: \n\nDescribe the concept of “futurevision” as a functional part of the analyst’s holding environment\nIdentify the presence and utility of “futurevision” in participants’ clinical work\nDifferentiate between “futurevision” and colluding with manic defense\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n PRESENTER\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n JOYE WEISEL-BARTH\, PH.D.\, PSY.D. is a senior instructor\, training analyst\, supervisor\, and Board member at the Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis in Los Angeles. She teaches Basic Concepts\, Self Psychology\, Issues in Relational Analysis\, Interpersonal Psychoanalysis\, and Freud. Her psychological and analytic practice is in Encino\, California. Joye has served as Book Review Editor for Psychoanalysis\, Self and Context and Associate Editor of Psychoanalytic Dialogues and Psychoanalytic Inquiry. She loves writing and is a frequent contributor to major psychoanalytic journals and guest presenter at psychoanalytic institutes and conferences.
